Adding Books

Click on the 'Add Book' link in the menu on the left. You will be taken to a form and asked to enter the details about the book.

Firstly, you will need to enter the ISBN (International Standard Book Number) for the book. This will be a unique 10 or 13 digit number and is usually found on the back of the book above the barcode. This is a required field when adding a book as it makes it much easier to search for a specific book this way. You should enter the ISBN without any spaces or hyphens, otherwise the book may not be found when searched for.

Next you will need to enter the Forename and Surname of the author. If the author uses their initials, enter this in the Forename field. (E.g. J.K. Rowling would be Forename: J.K. Surname: Rowling). If the author uses only one name, put this name as the surname and put an X in the Forename.

Title should be entered as written on the book.

You will then need to choose a genre that the book falls into. Select one of the options from the drop down box (e.g. Thriller)

Next, select the format of the book: hardback or paperback.

You will now need to select the condition the book is in. A rough guide to this is as follows:
As New - Never read
Very Good - Read once or twice, pages all still intact and not bent.
Good - Read several times but all pages still intact, not too badly bent, and not written on.
Acceptable - Well read, pages slightly bent but all pages still intact and readable. Please mention any slight defects in Additional Information.

If the book is in any worse condition than Acceptable it should not be listed on Swapaholic. Books listed must always be fully readable and have no missing or loose pages.

Finally, add any additional information about the book. This is optional but remember that the more information you give about the book, the more likely it is that other users will want to swap. Suggestions for what to write here are a brief plotline or review of the book, any awards it may have won, how many pages it has, or anything else you can think of!

When you have entered all of this information, click on the 'Add' button and you will be taken to a new page where you will be given the option to add a photo of the book.

If you would like to add a photo, click 'Browse', find the photo you want to upload, and then click 'Upload Photo'. The photo must be a jpeg file and less than 100KB in size. The photo will be resized when it is uploaded.

Alternatively, you can skip this stage by clicking 'Skip Photo' (you will be able to add a photo at a later stage).

You will now be given the message 'Book Added Successfully' and be shown the details you have just entered. You have the option to edit the details straight away if you have entered anything incorrectly.
